Nevada’s David Schacter defeated Jarrett Hill from Lock Haven on Friday to earn a spot in today’s championship 132-pound fight at the National Collegiate Boxing Championships at the Reno Ballroom.
Schacter is trying to win his fourth consecutive national title at 132 pounds.
But even with all that experience, the senior had a bad case of nerves before the fight. Schacter received a bye in the quarterfinals, so Friday’s semifinal was his first fight in the Nationals.
Today will be his last.
Schacter said he weighed in at less than 129 pounds.
But that was OK.
“I like to fight when I’m a little lighter. I think I’m better when I’m lighter,” Schacter said. “But I just wasn’t feeling that well.
